</p><p style="text-align: center;" dir="ltr"><strong>REFURBISH, RESTORE AND BUILD THE FINAL HOME PORT PROJECT</strong></p>
<p dir="ltr">This 38’ 1:15 scale model of USS Nevada (BB 36) was created by a team of Universal Studios model builders and used in the movie <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0066473/" target="_blank">Tora! Tora! Tora!</a> in 1970. When 2oth Century Fox auctioned off the model, US Navy Commander and Pearl Harbor survivor Walt Riter purchased it, placed it on a trailer, and displayed it in local parades to retell the story about the USS Nevada&#8217;s history and to remember the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941.</p>
<p dir="ltr">When Commander Riter passed away, the Nevada model sat outside exposed to the elements at the Seal Beach Navy Weapons Station until The Quarterdeck Society was given the model to restore it. Weather-beaten, termite-infested, and with parts missing, stolen, or broken, The Quarterdeck Society began raising money for the model&#8217;s restoration. The Quarterdeck Society can only raise funds locally, so Navy Days – LA is partnering with this 501(c)(3) to raise the funds necessary to restore the model and build a permanent home port/museum near the LA Maritime museum and the USS Iowa museum ship in Los Angeles Harbor.</p>
